The Legend of the Frelk…
The frelk, from the Latin frelca, is a magical creature that lives on the moon and teaches sleeping Earthlings to see the universe from a new perspective.
It was created by astronomer Johannes Kepler in 1608 to help ease people into the idea that the Earth is a planet just like all the others, and follows laws of nature just like others, in what might be the world’s first SciFi book, Somnium (Latin for The Dream).
Kepler (German, 1571-1630) is one of the fathers of modern astronomy, the scientific method, science, and is sometimes called the father of science fiction as well. Kepler’s laws of planetary motion said that planets’ orbits were elliptical around the sun, and that they sweep out equal areas in equal times. He is a key link between Copernicus (1543: the sun is the center of our system, not the Earth) and Newton (1687: laws of motion & gravity).
The plural of frelk is frelk. A group of frelk is called a mirage.
